Join GVI on this short-term volunteer teaching project for the unique opportunity to work with rural communities near Estelí, Nicaragua. Based in the midst of the beautiful Segovia Mountains, surrounded by mountains, valleys and waterfalls, you will live in this old Sandinista stronghold, learning or improve your Spanish, and traveling to nearby rural areas for your project work. The project work involves assisting children and adults who otherwise may not have the opportunity of any formal education.

Volunteer in Nicaragua with Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS)
Granada, Nicaragua — Public Health  
Volunteers will support local health center activities by providing health information to patients and assisting nurses with administrative duties. Also facilitate educational activities for 5–12-year-old children 2-3 days a week at schools focusing on preventive health. Topics will include personal hygiene, dental hygiene, malaria education and environmental issues. This project is located in the western part of Nicaragua in the Pacific Lowlands region between the nation's capital city of Managua, Lago de Nicaragua and the Pacific Ocean. Approximately 40 volcanoes dominate the landscape of this lush area, which also serves as the repository for much of Nicaragua’s Spanish colonial heritage. 

Dates: Summer
Cost: The participation fee is $4,400. Scholarship and fundraising support is available.
