Globe Aware in Latin America: Peru
Care for Cuzco: Heart of the Inca Empire
Cusco is known the world over as the enchanting “belly-button” of the Inca civilization, and is the principle doorway to one of the great wonders of the world: Machu Picchu. With its narrow, cobble stone streets, Inca stone work, and women in ancient dress, you will forget you are living in the 21st century. But the real charm and the challenge comes from the orphans with whom you will be working. The orphanage caters primarily to deaf children, though some have other challenges. These children are hungry for human contact, love and care. Their smiles will melt your heart. Volunteers are needed to help them get ready in the morning before school, to take them on cultural outings, and other such activities. During their school time, and due to staggered “shifts” you have ample freetime.

Volunteering can be for anyone, from those taking a year out after university to those simply wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life back home. Globe Aware
Volunteer in San Pedro, Peru: The Road Less Traveled Andean Village Experience
Looking for a truly "off the beaten path" experience in a culturally rich enviroment and a community of real needs? You've found it! Perched high in the mountains, a couple of hours north of Lima, nestles the darling, traditional, secluded village of San Pedro de Casta. The people of San Pedro are "campesinos" or peasants. They make their communal living by farming the terraced land of the surrounding mountains, as their ancestors did for thousands of years before them.
Work Project:  Due to its remote location, the villagers feel their children have limited access and knowledge to choose future life paths. The villagers would like their children to have additional options in life, by offering them some instruction in English, computers (how to send email, to use Word, etc) hospitality skills, first aid etc. Volunteers may help teach children in the village school, help build simple Lorena stoves (which greatly reduces fuel consumption and increases health of the home's inhabitants by reducing smoke), with community projects and repair, and other projects that arise. A set itinerary is created, though there is ample room to pick and choose projects that appeal to you the most.
Volunteer Care in Cusco, Peru: Heart of the Inca Empire
Cusco is known the world over as the enchanting "belly-button" of the Inca civilization, and is the principle doorway to one of the great wonders of the world: Machu Picchu . With its narrow, cobble stone streets, Inca stone work, and women in ancient dress, you will forget you are living in the 21st century. But the real charm and the challenge comes from the children with whom you will be working. Most are severely impoverished with no kind of education, and, at a separate facility, usually one day a week, you may work with deaf orphans. Globe Aware has 2 separate Cusco sites working with children.
