Wildlife Conservation Expedition in South Africa
Experience Africa’s large game such as lion, leopard, elephant and hyenas whilst gaining conservation and game reserve experience on this incredible wildlife research expedition based in two stunning locations of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Volunteers will learn to monitor wildlife using tracking skills and telemetry (for collared predators) developed on the week long training program. Volunteers may also possibly get involved with the darting and fitting of radio tracking collars to lions and leopards to further research work. Volunteers can also apply their new knowledge and enjoy the cooler air during satellite camps to some of the breathtaking mountain habitats participating in conservation and biodiversity studies. Volunteers will build upon their training, gaining knowledge and developing practical field skills throughout their time on the program ensuring a well rounded, education and rewarding wildlife volunteering experience deep in the African bush.

Volunteer on a Monkey Conservation Project in South Africa
Getting involved with world-class conservation work on this volunteer project will take you to enjoy the variety of wonders that South Africa has to offer. GVI supports The Vervet Monkey Foundation, a sanctuary for over 700 primates (of which most are vervet monkeys), which is in need of volunteers who are prepared to become completely involved in the care and rehabilitation of these wonderful wild animals. Volunteers can join for four weeks and upwards, and will be fully trained in all aspects of animal care needed. Located in a beautiful region at the foot of the Wolkberg Mountains, an hour and a half drive from the Kruger National Park, you can experience the fascinating flora and fauna of South Africa and enjoy life in a traditional African bush camp.

Volunteer Teaching at a Township School in Cape Town, South Africa
Get involved in a progressive educational program in a township primary school situated just outside Stellenbosch and 35 minutes from Cape Town. This exciting new volunteer program aims to assist children develop their literacy and numeracy skills as well as their conversational English through dedicated one-on-one coaching or tutoring sessions. GVI together with the teachers at this primary school have designed specific 2 week programs to help children who are struggling with English and who are falling behind their peers in reading and writing. Volunteers will be given approximately 8 students who have been selected by their teachers for each 2 week rotation. This specifically designed program covers part of their curriculum as well as some fun and creative exercises which will help the students progress and grow in confidence.

Elephant Sanctuary South Africa
Often reaching a colossal 7.3 metres in height and weighing in at a gargantuan 9000 kg, the majestic African elephant strides at an average of 6 kph. Elephant calves, perhaps less confidently, stand just as majestically at 76 cm tall, safe in the knowledge of what they are to become.

Horse Safari and Conservation South Africa
What better way of getting in touch with the wild than riding on the back of a horse. You will certainly learn about the different personalities of the horses and get plenty of time riding and exercising them. Located in deep in the African bush, the Northern Drakensberg Mountain range forms the backdrop to the reserve. Expect to assist with the caring of the horses and become ‘bush wise’ learning African wildlife. The surrounding reserves are host to the lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos and leopards but none are resident in the reserve you’re staying on so you can sleep well.

Living with Lions Volunteer South Africa
The jaw-dropping beauty of South Africa’s natural landscape truly is a sight to behold. The Living with Lions programme offers you the unforgettable opportunity of getting up close and personal with 80 Lions at a protected wildlife reserve.

Don’t think for one second that this is a back-seat spectator trip. Expect to be helping out with the daily running of the reserve; feeding the baby hyenas and lion cubs, welcoming the visitors and maintaining the welfare of the animals. Look out for cheetahs, wild dogs, hyenas, black-blacked jackals and always sleep with one eye firmly open.
